Leadership Development: what is and isn't it?

I continue to have the absolute pleasure of supporting University of Wales Trinity Saint David Masters Students to reflect on, critically consider and develop a wider understanding of leadership skills and attributes...with a parallel process of developing themselves as leaders.
This week's focus is Leadership Development. I posed questions that I know many practitioners and organisations might wonder about "surely, we can and should always develop leaders and leadership?" Often, the underlying assumption seems to be that leadership is the sole domain of Leaders (ie those in formal roles which are often hierarchical).
I have challenged the students this week to really consider this. If genuine diversity and inclusion are the key organisational challenges (ie recognising, understanding and valuing differences in everyone) so that workplaces create wider participation and ownership, then do we need to reconsider what we consider to be leadership development (whilst also understanding the place for Leader Development)? #leadershipdevelopment #leadership #diversityandinclusion #students #mastersdegree
Are these questions that your organisation could/should be asking? if so, I might be able to help you. Please contact james@mortawel.co.uk and visit www.mortawel.co.uk to find out how I can help your workplace be healthier, more productive and deliver better outcomes.
